The Electronic Journal Edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E to be the Main Edition and the Publishing Fee to be Reduced

The IEEJ Editorial Affairs Committee has carried out a series of studies aimed at improving the current production system for IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E because it imposes a large burden on authors. As a result the Committee has proposed the following policies to the IEEJ Board of Directors and the policies were approved by the Board.

Beginning from Vol. 131, No. 5 we will stop distributing the printed edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E to members of the institute and base our approach on offering the electronic journal edition for viewing on-line (in principle we will abolish the printed edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E).

Regarding IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E, in principle we will abolish reprints of papers, technical notes, and letters submitted on and after October 1, 2010 and we will lower the publishing fee to approximately 65% of its current level.

The process of studying these issues has been as follows.
From May 2006 to January 2007

The Ad Hoc Committee on Editorial Policy studied policies, etc. related to the editing of Transactions of IEEJ and general editing issues in IEEJ, etc., and made a report to the Editorial Affairs Committee recommending that the publishing fee be reduced by promoting a switch to electronic editing and publishing of Transactions of IEEJ

September 2007

  • Introduction of an authentication and billing system for the electronic journal edition of the Journal of IEEJ and theIEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E
  • Commencement of simultaneous publication of the printed edition and the electronic journal edition

June 2008

  • Introduction of institutional use service for the Journal of IEEJ and IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E

January 2009

  • Commencement of studies by the Editorial Affairs Committee

In the approximately three years since receipt of the report from the Ad Hoc Committee on Editorial Policy, we have used institute announcements in the Journal and the Transactions of IEEJ, the IEEJ web site, e-mail magazines, posters, etc. to promote knowledge and use of the electronic journal edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E. Furthermore, in parallel with these efforts, we did a careful study of the form the Transactions should take after they have been converted into an electronic journal, and arrived at the conclusion that we would be able to reduce the publishing fee for papers, technical notes, and letters (hereinafter referred to as “papers”) submitted on October 1, 2010 or later with the cost savings made by in principle stopping production of the printed edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E and its reprints beginning from Vol. 131, No. 5.
We expect that reducing the burden on authors will encourage them to submit more papers and as a result the Transactions will be further enhanced and research will make progress.
We apologize for any inconvenience and ask for your understanding and cooperation.

How to Obtain the Printed Edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E and Reprints in Future

Even after we have in principle abolished the printed edition of IEEJ Transactions A, B, C, D & E, we will commence the following service beginning with Vol. 131, No. 5 for customers who wish to continue receiving paper media.

For those members who would like an annual subscription for the printed edition of the Transactions, we will establish an annual subscription system for members only. We plan to offer this subscription for 10,800 yen a year per transaction (40% off the list price). The application method will be explained in the Journal of IEEJ and on the IEEJ web site.

For customers who want to purchase only the issue they need of the printed edition of the Transactions, we will commence sales of the printed edition of the Transactions through the IEEJ Electronic Library. The list price is 1,500 yen per issue but members can purchase them for 20% less than the list price. Note that we may set a special list price for issues with more than the standard number of pages, such as special issues, etc.

For customers who want to purchase the printed edition of only the paper they need, we will commence sales of reprints through the IEEJ Electronic Library. The list prices per paper are as follows.

[Paper & Technical Note]

The printed editions (including annual subscriptions for the printed edition) and reprints sold through the IEEJ Electronic Library are all printed on demand and all the documents will be printed in black and white.
