The IEEJ strongly feels the need to take leadership in international exchange on critical issues by leveraging its resources, expertise and experience. As a first step, the IEEJ seeks to promote international cooperation by expanding its relations with scholars and electrical engineers in neighboring Asian and Oceanic nations, thereby leading to more active industrial links and invigoration of industries within the region. Now, IEEJ is a scientific organization founded in 1888 and has approximately 23,000 members, mainly consisting of scholars and engineers in the fields of electrical engineering and electronics. Under participation and support of a broad spectrum of people representing the academic and corporate communities, the IEEJ carries out a wide range of activities including the publication of scientific journals and books, technical research and investigation and counterpart exchanges with similar organizations in other countries as well as with various international organizations. In June 1997, the IEEJ established a committee to define its formal Principles of International Activities. The resulting principles, agreed upon and subsequently approved by the Executive Committee. The major principles can be summarized as follows: The IEEJ will conduct its activities as an organization open to the international community and support participating individuals in providing their outstanding for society. The primary support activity is the development of international information exchange networks, including the further recruitment of foreign members and promotion of the Corresponding Membership. |
