The service-robot industry is expected to grow up as one of the key industries of our country in the future, because Japan has problems with the declining birth rate and aging population in the mature society. We defined service-robots as those not including manufacturing industry, and this technological report investigated small motors, controls and other key technologies for service robots. The investigation results have been summarized as the following ten technology-trend items: (1) trend of motors and actuators for service robots, (2) trend of small size, high efficiency of the motor,(3) trend of magnetic material technologies for motor, (4) technical trend of gears and some mechanical elements, (5) trend in power source for service robot, (6) trend of the sensor technology for service robots, (7) elemental technologies and control technology trends that contribute to improvement of compliance of robots, (8) trend of modeling technologies for service robots, (9) trend of sensing technologies on car safe prevention and automatic running, (10) trend in safety standards for service robot
